The SheBlogs community has an amazing power. Over the last 7 months, we have grown to a membership of nearly 1700 female bloggers, who collectively reach more than 19.5 million monthly unique readers, or roughly one in five US Web browsers.
In times of triumph, we are able to offer amazing contest opportunities, giveaways, news announcements and previews. In times of tragedy, however, we have an opportunity to give something back – and the collective reach to make an impact.
With our reach – if each one of our readers were to donate $1 to a cause, the SheBlogs community would be able to raise $19.5 million. If each reader donated $10, that figure would be nearly $200 million.
On Tuesday, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, killing hundreds of thousands, leaving thousands more missing, and leaving the country’s population in desperate need of food, shelter, clothing and other necessities.
More than 2.5 million people were exposed to the most violent shaking and damage, but a total of 9.7 million are left with massive infrastructure damage, including collapsed schools, destroyed homes and overwhelmed hospitals.
In this time of need – called by Fmr. President Bill Clinton “One of the Great Humanitarian Emergencies in the History of the Americas,” let us all come together as a community, and help spread the word about the importance of donating to the causes that are helping with aid to Haiti. We encourage you to share these figures with your readers, and ask then to donate even one dollar.
Below is a list of organizations accepting donations to help survivors of the Haitian earthquake. Please, share one or all of them with your readers. If we have missed an organization, please comment below, and please leave a link to your post in the comments below:
