Guest Post: Ethics and Blogging

Over the past few years the blogging community has grown by leaps and bounds. Similar to reality television we see an increased number of people tuned into watch “real”people instead of trained actors. In the blogosphere we see the same thing. People look toward “real” people or consumers to help them form an a opinion rather than trained researchers and writers.

As a Blog reader, I love to get to know the Editor or Blog Writer. I want to feel like I can connect with this person on some level. I need to feel confident that I can trust what is written and their articles and recommendations are factual and honest in all aspects. Once I find a blogger that I feel meets the above criteria I dont often search for additional resources. I let them be my guide in beginning my understanding of certain products or topics.

As a beauty blogger the items that I am writing about are constantly changing. There are new brands and product launches almost daily. I feel an obligation to know and understand these items for those who take the time to read my blog. Its important to portray the same traits I look for in reading a blog the same way for my readers.

When a blog is created it is in most cases created as a personal journal for a blogger to document their own personal stories and opinions. I feel the writer should always remain true to he above first and foremost in all that they share with their readers. Its wrong for someone to feel they should conform how they feel to please a company, reader or other party.

The Ethics of a blogger is something I believe can be determined very quickly as you start to read a writers material. The facts that are included in the post and the energy in the subject is all a clue for me as to how honest a review may be. When reading blogs we trust we are hearing an honest consumers opinion and not a unwarranted raving review.
